Now, I know what you might be thinking, "Praise the Lord, he's cured!" Well, don't get too ahead of yourself just yet... Just because the Chemo has cleared out these cells doesn't mean that the Leukemia cells aren't being produced in his bone marrow still. Sounds confusing right? Believe me... I know!
I'm a visual learner, so I've made a diagram to hopefully help break it down! In short, each round of Chemo will kill all blood cells with the hopes of getting rid of all of the Leukemia cells. So, after 10 days of Chemo he will be depleted of most all of his cells - this is why he is very susceptible to getting an infection or disease. The 21 days after the Chemo is when his cells will be replenishing themselves (his bone marrow will remake his blood cells). At the end of this period, the doctors will do a bone marrow biopsy and see if there are Leukemia cells, then they will start another round of Chemo.
Enough of medical mumbo-jumbo, let's just rejoice in the news we got this weekend that his body is free of any Leukemia cells at the moment!! "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" - Philippians 4:4
